Mmmhhh...
Unfortunately even the combination

options( tikzMetricsDictionary = NULL )

library(tikzDevice)

setTikzDefaults()
options(tikzLatexPackages=c(getOption("tikzLatexPackages"),'\
\renewcommand{\\rmdefault}{phv}\n'))

does not solve my problems (and with version 0.5).
Tomorrow I'll provide you with an example.
