Dear Ferdi and Kevin,

Kevin, thanks for answering! Along the lines of what you say, this could also be obtained by 0-1 dummy actor variables for the specific categories and using the "same" transformation for each of them.

Best wishes,
Tom

hi ferdi,

i believe a straightforward way to get at this question would be to create two dyadic variables: in the first, a pair of firms receives a 1 if they are both industrial firms, and a 0 otherwise; in the second, a pair of firms receives a 1 if they are both financial firms, and a 0 otherwise. i think this would be a straightforward way of separating the sameness effect into two distinct terms, though there may very well be alternative approaches that others are aware of.

best wishes,
kevin

Hello group,

I am using the sameness effect to see whether industrial firms and financial firms have moved apart in the Dutch interlocking directorates. All is working well, however, is there a way to see what group contributed the most to the sameness effect? Sameness shows overall whether actors (firms) have a preference for alters with the exact same value, but it seems unclear which group contributes the most to the effect.

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Ferdi
