Dear Dave,

From your log I assume you are working on Windows.
We tested on Windows 7 for R-versions 3.2.4 and on r-forge on windows
for R-version 3.3.3, which all worked well.

From your log I cannot tell, why the compilation is failing.

For installing from source:
Have you properly installed the corresponding RTools for your R-version?
https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/Rtools/

When switching to the most current R-Version you should be able to
install the package without compilation (omit the  type="source").
