Annotation for nodes/edges won't work as phylo4d data (at present)
if it is in a form that can't be squeezed in as a column of a data
frame. All the metadata would have to be hiding in the @metadata list.
Within that list, though, we can be as creative as we want because S4
doesn't check anything other than the type of the slot by default.
