[GenABEL-dev] Why copy Makevars_distrib over Makevars in distribution scripts?

Dear list,
I was looking through the scripts we use to create R packages from our
source code (located in pkg/GenABEL-general/distrib_scripts). One step I
found puzzling is why the file Makevars_distrib (in the src directory)
to Makevars? This is done for DatABEL, MixABEL, VariABEL and GenABEL.
When is the regular Makevars file used?
Thanks for any insight you can give.
Lennart.
