Thanks a lot for the critical input!

I modified the instructions along two lines:

1) .bashrc + emphasizing that it for Bash + dirname $(which R)

2) Re-writing it in a way for an advanced user who wants to compile
the devel-version for whatever reason

After your suggestions and thinking a bit more of it, I presume we
would all agree we do not want a 'random' person applying for commit
access just because instructions are there open to the public. Usual
procedure should be, to my mind, that people send few patches to the
devel list, and then internally we may bring up the issue if we are
willing to give this person commit rights or not.

I will commit to the webpages in few seconds and forward to the list
for further discussion (if any).
