Dear Barbara,

Sorry for the late reply. What you mention might be the issue, particularly the 100% recapture, although we found the same problem in an older version of BaSTA, particularly the version that is currently in CRAN. I can send you the updated version, but alternatively, I can send you another package I’ve developed based on BaSTA but that works on census data, which might be more appropriate in your case.

Best,

  Fernando

Subject: [Basta-users] Perfect detection problem
You don't often get email from b.tschirren at exeter.ac.uk. Learn why this is important<http://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Dear BaSTA Team,
I tried to estimate age-specific survival in my system but continued to get the error message
Calculating DIC...Error in rep(0, nbd) : invalid 'times' argument
My system has a 100% detection probability and 100% of the birth dates are known. I started to suspect that this might cause the problem. Indeed, when randomly adding some observation uncertainty (i.e. replacing a single known birth date with 0) the simulations ran smoothly. Is there a way to get around this problem, e.g. by specifying very strong priors?
Many thanks for your help,
Barbara
