+Phase 1 of the GARPFRM package includes sections from the following two books:

We can implement a simple version that provides similar functionality to PortfolioAnalytics with basic constraints. The book only focuses on mean-variance, so that is what we will implement. It would be nice to depend on PortfolioAnalytics, but is not advisable because it is not on CRAN. Once PortfolioAnalytics is moved to CRAN, we can revise this section to offer more functionality that is in PortfolioAnalytics.

+We should have a \verb"CAPM" function that implements basic univariate and multivariate models. Objects created by the \verb"CAPM" function will be assigned a class of \verb"capm_uv" and \verb"capm_mv" for univariate and multivariate models, respectively. We also need functionality to do hypothesis testing.

+This section covers basic functionality that is already in base R. We likely not need to write any functions for this section and should focus on a vignette. The vignette should closely follow the book with an emphasis on applying the concepts on data sets provided in the package.

+A closely related concept is exploratory data analysis. We should have some basic EDA with good support for visualization using trellis or lattice style plots. The lattice package is pretty complex so we will create some wrapper functions to hide the complexity for the user.

+This section is relatively short and gives a basic overview of Monte Carlo methods. We should have a function that generates data using monte carlo methods. The book uses a geometric brownian motion model.
