  Does anyone out there have a Solaris machine?  I doubt it.

  I'm happy to global search-and-replace for the relevant functions and
prepend "std::" to them.  We could try this, submit to CRAN, and see if
it builds, but this seems like an inefficient way to debug.  Maybe I
will contact Brian Ripley (eek!) for advice.
