[FLR-list] current issues with package update - windows

Hi,

I have seen this kind of problems in the past, specially with packages carrying a DLL or an executable file. Right now our web filter at the JRC sometimes blocks some FLR packages the first time it is downloaded.

If you cannot whitelist a website in your antivirus maybe you could create a local copy of CRAN inside your network, or one only wit the pkgs you need, for the time being.

Cheers,

Iago

Subject: [FLR-list] current issues with package update - windows

Hi all,

I just want to highlight an issue that seems to have popped up this week, that is creating issues with packages download and update in R Windows – nothing specific to FLR but generic to R.

I have downloaded and installed R3.4.1 this week – while at the same time it seems that Windows has proceeded with a big chunk of updates, my machine was busy with that yesterday. As a result, packages cannot be installed as usual; some packages and dependencies work fine, some others get blocked in temporary folders with the message “unable to move installation… ”. They can only be used by downloading the binary zip from CRAN and unzip manually.
After a bit of time and help from our R experts, we believe that this may be linked to changes in the antivirus (Mc Afee), which blocks some packages. And according to R mailing list this is being looked at by R developers, and indeed today I could download and install packages by installing the R developer version patch 73329 and after… But since this would correspond to R3.5 then not all packages can yet be used with this devel version (ggplot2 crashes my R session).

So so.. well, I don’t know if that is only me having this issue;-) But in case of this happens to others… you know

Bye

Clara
